Our dogs and puppies love toys to chew, throw things and play. These no-sew toys are lots of fun for animals and you're recycling unwanted clothing. Follow the instructions below to make these fun toys...
Equipment needed:
- An old, clean long sleeve tshirt or sweatshirt. You can use one you already have, or pick one up from a local op shop. One tshirt makes two donuts.
- Scissors sharp enough to cut through fabric
Prepare your t-shirt
- Lay your tshirt out flat and carefully cut off the sleeves
- Cut the body of the tshirt from the bottom hem up.
- Using the scissors, cut across the body of the tshirt into strips about 5 cms width. Keep cutting until you reach the armpits of the tshirt. The piece above where you finish cutting can be put aside for another project.
Method
- Take one of the sleeves and starting from the cuff, roll it up onto itself forming a donut shape. Keep rolling until you reach the top of the sleeve.
- Take one of the rings you cut from the t-shirt body and cut through so it forms a long skinny piece of fabric. Stretch it out nice and hard, then let go. This should cause the edges of the fabric to roll a little, making a nice edge.
- Take your fabric donut and tie your long piece around a side of the donut, forming a knot at one end.
- Take the remainder of the skinny piece and wind it around the donut nice and tight as in the picture. When you have wound all the way around, tie the end of the skinny piece to the first knot so that it cannot unravel. Trim off any extra left of the skinny piece.
- Your donut is ready for play!
